Differentiated Instruction Examples

Differentiated instruction is the teaching process which involves providing students proper way of learning like constructing, processing, making sense of ideas etc. It is the process because of which every student in the class can learn well from the teacher. Actually all the students are not of the same quality. Some students find it very hard to understand the lessons. Some students even find some difficulties while reading (in the case of dyslexia). Some students even do not find it hard to understand any lesson. These students can also complete the assignments pretty easily and perfectly. Handling each and every types of student is the job for a teacher. So there are several differentiated instruction examples to handle many different types of students.

For every teacher there are some elements which they follow while taking the class. These elements can be differentiated. These elements are content, process, product, readiness, interests, learning profile etc. Content can be differentiated according to the instructor’s idea. He can provide text on different level of difficulty. He can also use audio recordings, internet sources and other unconventional kind of manipulative. Process actually means the activities which help the learners to gather knowledge regarding the subject. The class work and the home work can be considered as the process of learning. The instructor can vary his amount of support while learning. The students can also be given chance to express what they have understood. Based on learner interest various types of assignments can be given to them by the teacher. Product is the end result which shows how well the students have understood.  The assessment can be done according to the result in the exam, demonstration, assignments, quiz etc.

The teacher can differentiate the product by providing rubrics for assignments, varying types of resources that the learners can use in preparing products like internet resources, books, interviews etc. Readiness, interests and learning profile are three learner characteristics which instructors can take into account while planning for differentiation. Readiness is for understanding the students well. Providing wide varieties of choices for selecting topics is the best differentiated instruction example to understand the interest of the students. As all the students are not of same types the learning profile can be differentiated by providing choice of spaces, learning opportunities in various ways, presenting information in variety of ways etc. These are some of the differentiated instruction examples. The instructor after applying these things can learn more about his student and provide the best way of teaching to make them learn properly.
